A question is embedded, twenty-four chunks come back from the index, a reranker keeps five, and the answer is generated from those five plus the question itself — two edges converge on the output. The chunk counter climbs to 24 and falls to 5 while the meter watches; that falling number is what makes it retrieval, not search.
